Kasdan film to be released in 2012
Sony Pictures Classics has found a soulmate in “Darling Companion,” snagging U.S. rights to the Lawrence Kasdan pic from production company Werc Werk Works.
Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline, Elisabeth Moss, Sam Shepard, Dianne Wiest and Mark Duplass are among those in the film, now in post. Story centers on a woman (Keaton) who rescues a stray dog only to see her husband (Kline) lose it, sparking a search that enlists an array of disparate characters.
Helmer Kasdan (“The Big Chill”) co-wrote the screenplay with Meg Kasdan. Pic is produced by Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman, Lawrence Kasdan for Kasdan Pictures and Werc Werk Works’ Elizabeth Redleaf, with Christine Walker, Meg Kasdan and John Kelly as exec producers.
Distribution deal was negotiated by SPC with CAA, which also lined up financing for the movie. Sierra/Affinity has signed on to handle foreign rights.
SPC aims to release “Darling Companion” sometime next year. Pic joins an SPC lineup of upcoming releases including “Higher Ground,” “Take Shelter” and “A Dangerous Method.”
