Polanski pic targets end-of-year release
Sony Pictures Classics has sealed the deal to release “Carnage,” Roman Polanski’s pic adaptation of “God of Carnage.”
Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly star in the pic, which is adapted by scribe Yasmina Reza from her own play.
Film is set in Brooklyn, as was the Broadway version of the play that originally bowed in Paris and was set there. Play went on to become a hit in the West End and subsequently opened on the Rialto in March 2009 with a starry cast that included Marcia Gay Harden (who nabbed a thesping Tony), James Gandolfini, Hope Davis and Jeff Daniels. Actors are reprising their roles in the Matthew Warchus-helmed staging at L.A.’s Ahmanson Theater.
Said Ben Said (“The Witnesses,” “The Girl on the Train”) produces “Carnage.” SPC negotiated the acquisition with Ben Said and ICM’s Jeff Berg.
SPC is targeting an end-of-year release for “Carnage.”
