Italo helmer Silvio Soldini will shoot “Il Comandante e la cicogna” (The Commander and the Stork), a laffer in the vein of his hit “Bread and Tulips,” with Warner Bros. set to release in Italy.
“Stork” will stars Alba Rohrwacher and Valerio Mastandrea in the tale of a widowed plumber with two kids who falls in love with a penniless artist. Shooting starts in September in Turin.
Soldini penned “Stork” with scribe Doriana Leondeff (“Bread and Tulips,” “Days and Clouds”) and Marco Pettenello (“The Passion”).
Pic reunites Soldini with regular producer Lionello Cerri, who is setting up “Stork” as a $7.5 million co-production with Gaul’s Mact Prods. and Switzerland’s Ventura Film.
The Piedmont region’s new Film Investimenti Piemonte Film Fund, which seeks to usher in equity financing in Italy by luring private investors in the region to projects they select according to stringent market criteria, is also onboard.Both the surreal “Bread and Tulips,” Soldini’s biggest hit to date, and “Days and Clouds” sold in more than 30 territories, including the U.S.
