Sony pic wins best film, director, screenwriter kudos
“The Social Network” led the charge at the 31st London Film Critics’ Circle Awards on Thursday.Pic won for film and director while Aaron Sorkin picked up the screenwriter laurel and Andrew Garfield nabbed best British actor in a supporting role. “The King’s Speech” also had a good night, bagging the actor nod for Colin Firth, British director for Tom Hooper and the Attenborough Award for British film. Annette Bening won actress for “The Kids Are All Right.” Canadian helmer Xavier Beauvois’ “Of Gods and Men” took the foreign-language film kudo. “Another Year’s” Lesley Manville nabbed the British actress award, while Christian Bale won British actor for “The Fighter.” Olivia Williams scored Brit supporting actress for “The Ghost Writer.” Young British performer went to Conor McCarron for “Neds.” Gareth Edwards took breakthrough British filmmaker for his feature debut, “Monsters.” The London Film Critics’ Circle, made up of more than 120 critics, broadcasters and writers, awarded Kristin Scott Thomas the Dilys Powell Award for excellence in cinema.
