Silverdocs opens with ‘Swell Season’

'Revenge of the Electric Car' will close non-fiction fest

The AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival has announced the opening, closing and feature docs for the D.C.-area fest.

Docu fest will open with “The Swell Season,” directed by Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins and Carlo Mirabella-Davis, and close with “Revenge of the Electric Car,” directed by Chris Paine. Steve James, director of “Hoop Dreams,” returns with the centerpiece doc “The Interrupters.”

Senator Al Franken will introduce the Charles Guggenheim Symposium documentarian honorees during the fest, Chris Hegedus and D A Pennebaker.

“These films are among the among the very best the documentary form has to offer, covering a wide range of issues and voices,” said Silverdocs Festival Director Sky Sitney. The seven-day fest, running from June 20-26, will present more 100 films and also offer music performances, panel discussions, and filmmaker master classes.
