Glenn Close will receive the San Sebastian Film Festival’s Donostia Award for career achievement on Sept. 18.
Close will be at the Spanish event to present the European premiere of her latest film, Rodrigo Garcia’s “Albert Nobbs.” Pic will play out of competition.
Inspired by George Moore’s short story, “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs,” it turns on a woman passing as a man in order to work in 19th-century Dublin.
Close stars and also shares producer and writer credits. In 1982, she won an Obie Award for playing Nobbs Off Broadway.
Other cast members include Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson and Janet McTeer.
An Ireland-U.K.-U.S. co-production, “Nobbs” is produced by Trillium Prods., Mockingbird Pictures and Parallel Film Prods.
It’s being sold internationally by WestEnd Films and has been acquired by Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions for a Stateside release. Emon
will distribute “Nobbs” in Spain.
Previous recipients of the Donostia Award include Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Liv Ullmann, Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen.
Fest runs Sept. 16-24.
