Sally Field to play Mary Todd Lincoln for Spielberg

Actress joins Daniel Day-Lewis in 'Lincoln'

Sally Field will play Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

Field had circled the project early on in its conception when Liam Neeson was originally set as the 16th president but since the announcement of Lewis taking over the role it was uncertain whether she was still in line to take on the role of Todd.

Touchstone is on to distribute with Tony Kushner adapting the script and Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy producing.

Based on the novel “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin, the pic is expected to focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.

Lensing will begin this fall.

Field can still be seen on the ABC skein “Brothers & Sisters.”

She is repped by CAA.
