Safehouse for creative

Joby Harold joins Safehouse as partner

Screenwriter-director Joby Harold has joined Safehouse Pictures as partner in a move aimed at focusing the company on studio fare.

Six-year-old Safehouse, run by Tory Tunnell, has concentrated on indie projects such as “Holy Rollers,” “Trumbo” and “The Bleeding House,” which screened at Tribeca this year. Harold recently became attached to write Warner Bros.’ “All You Need Is Kill,” to be directed by Doug Liman.

Safehouse will largely — though not exclusively — develop original ideas by Harold, and he he will write and/or direct some of the resulting projects. Tunnell and Harold, who are married, are already collaborating as producers on “Fountain City,” based on Harold’s script with Andrew Adamson directing, and on Sony’s “Mommy and Me,” based on a story by Harold and starring Meryl Streep and Tina Fey.

Both projects are being produced by Tunnell with Harold exec producing. The duo most recently set up Harold’s thriller “The Key Man” at QED with Open Road distributing and Brian De Palma directing.

“Our slate is very diverse, but our common goal is to create unique, concept-driven commercial films that feature grounded and dynamic characters,” Harold said.

The British native also wrote and directed “Awake” for TWC and MGM and penned the “Army of the Dead” screenplay for Zack Snyder and Warners. He also adapted Frank Miller’s comicbook “Ronin” for Warners and adaped children’s fantasy novel “Simon Bloom” for Universal and Gary Ross.

Harold also has signed with Safehouse’s commercial division run by Stelio Kitrilakis.

“It finally dawned on us to formalize our work partnership with the success of our recent collaborations. We love working together and look forward to doing so through Safehouse Pictures long into the future,” Tunnell said.

Harold’s repped by CAA and Bloom Hergott.
