Russia joins Eurimages

Move will boost number of European co-productions

MOSCOW — Russia has been admitted as a member of the European co-production fund Eurimages.

Decision by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg means projects involving a co-producer from Russia can be submitted to Eurimages funding rounds immediately.

Distributors and exhibitors will also be eligible for support for such things as upgrading to digital screening and distribution.

Announcement was welcomed Friday by Russia’s state Cinema Fund, which plans to establish its own $8 million annual co-production support program soon.

Since it was set up in 1988, Eurimages has distributed around €407 million ($565 million) in support for 1,348 co-productions.
