Root keeps ‘Company’ for Redford

Thesp joins LaBeouf in political thriller

“The Conspirator” thesp Stephen Root is set to reteam with director Robert Redford, who has tapped the veteran character actor for a supporting role in “The Company You Keep.”

Redford directs and stars as an ex-militant wanted by the FBI who goes on the run when his identity is exposed by a young reporter, played by Shia LaBeouf. Political thriller co-stars Brit Marling, Nick Nolte, Susan Sarandon, Richard Jenkins and Julie Christie.

Root will play Billy Cusimano, whom Redford’s character represented when he got busted for drugs. Voltage Pictures and Redford’s Wildwood Enterprises are teaming on the Lem Dobbs-scripted pic, based on the novel by Neil Gordon. Redford and Bill Holderman are producing with Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier, while Craig J. Flores exec produces.

Root is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
