As Relativity Media firms up its 2012 slate, the studio has announced spring release dates for James McTeigue’s untitled Edgar Allan Poe project and the untitled omnibus comedy from producers Peter Farrelly and Charles Wessler.
McTeigue’s period thriller will open March 9. John Cusack stars as Poe, who joins forces with a young Baltimore detective played by Luke Evans to hunt down a crazed serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.
Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (“Faster”) co-star in the pic, which was written by Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare.
Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans are producing for Intrepid Pictures, alongside FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder, who brought the project to Intrepid. Galavis Films’ Jesus Martinez is executive producing and FilmNation will be selling international distribution rights to the film.
Meanwhile, the Farrelly Bros. laffer will open on April 13, 2012. Film features a series of raunchy, interconnected stories and the star-studded ensemble cast includes Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, Johnny Knoxville, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone and many top comic thesps.
Farrelly and Wessler are producing with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and GreeneStreet Films’ John Penotti. Relativity’s Tucker Tooley will exec produce with GreeneStreet’s Tim Williams. Tom Gormican and Marc Ambrose are co-producing, while Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko serve as associate producers.
Relativity recently announced it would release the Jennifer Lawrence thriller “House at the End of the Street” on Feb. 3. Studio’s next release is “Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer” on June 10.
