'Arthur' preems at Gotham's Ziegfeld Theater
“Arthur” director Jason Winer joked at Gotham’s Ziegfeld Theater Tuesday night premiere that the crowd of celebrities, familiar faces and strangers reminded him of his bar mitzvah.
At the Harvard Club afterparty, star Russell Brand was queried about the New York Times crediting last weekend’s strong opening for “Hop” to his popularity with young girls.
“Oh wow, I did not see that, but that’s a wonderful affirmation,” he said. “That’s the thing I most would have liked to have heard when I was 14.”
“I hope it’s true and they come to see him not be a derelict bunny but an alcoholic billionaire,” producer Kevin McCormick said of his Warner Bros. release. “Russell’s naughty but in kind of a safe way.”
Co-star Jennifer Garner said she loved “playing against type. Not a lot of people would think, ‘Let’s let her do this.’ It opened something up in me and now it’s all I want to do.”
Robin Williams and Billy Crystal huddled with Brand. Did Crystal suggest Brand remake “When Harry Met Sally”?
“Maybe that’s enough remakes for now,” Brand replied.
