International candidates compete with U.S. for first time
The Producers Guild of America has announced the 10 winners of its 2011 Producers Showcase competition, the first year for which it allowed both domestic and international entries.
Winners were John Andres from the U.S. for “The Straw Hat Detective,” Spain’s Pepe Flores Baballer for “Spain in Flames,” Robert Gill from Canada for “7 on Ice,” Sean Hoessli of the U.S. for “Sightings-3D,” Sung-Cheol Sean Kim from South Korea for “The Calling,” Dana Kuznetzkoff of the U.S. for “Band of Angels,” Australia’s Stephen Luby “The Secret River,” Trevor Richardson from the U.S. for “Where Did Wendi Go,” Australia’s Naomi Wenck for “Highways to War,” and Christopher Zimmer of Canada for “Sable Island Radio.”
Winners were chosen after an evaluation process where members of the PGA reviewed each contestant’s script, resume and talent.
Each winner will receive free admission to the third annual Produced by Conference, slated for June 3-5 at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank. Confab offers a forum for the filmmakers to promote themselves and their work.
The PGA is teamed with the Assn. of Film Commissioners Intl. on the conference.
