Murdoch happy amid British tabloid scandal

NEW YORK — Despite the ongoing News of the World firestorm, Wendi Murdoch, wife of Rupert, looked calm and happy for the July 13 preem of “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.”

Pic is inaugural project for Big Feet Productions, Mrs. Murdoch’s new banner with Florence Sloan, wife of ex-MGM CEO Harry Sloan.

“It was an independent production so we found our own screenwriter, director and money, which came from China,” said Murdoch, whose hubbie was a no-show for some reason. “We did everything on our own. Definitely being who we are, married to nice husbands, we got good support and advise from the Hollywood community and friends.

When asked what the duo brought to the table, director Wayne Wang joked, “Money!” before adding with a laugh, “No. No. They are both really strong women who know what they are doing.”

The Tribeca Grand Hotel preem brought out Michael Bloomberg, Ben Kingsley, Harvey Weinstein and Kathleen Turner, along with event’s co-hosts Nicole Kidman and Diane Furstenberg. Afterwards, a score of black sedans made their way to the DVF studio on 14th Street for a fashionable after-party.

While she was all smiles for the cameras, Mrs. Murdoch’s small army of publicists deflected any questions regarding what was really on everybody’s mind.
