Dark comedy is in 'Faulty Towers' vein
Kevin Pollak and Illeana Douglas are bringing life to “Chez Upshaw,” a dark comedy about a married couple who turn their flailing B&B into a “check in, don’t check out” resort for assisted suicides.
Bruce Mason is writing and directing the indie pic that will also star Molly Sims, Greg Grunberg and Shane Johnson.
Marvin V. Acuna is producing, while Victoria Herbert serves as exec producer. Shooting starts later this month.
“Bruce wrote a hilarious, dark comedy that I’m excited as hell to inhabit, and over the moon about having Illeana as my considerably better half,” said Pollak. “On one level, it’s the closest in tone I’ve seen to the British TV classic ‘Faulty Towers,’ but with an original, fresh helping of the macabre and the surprisingly sweet love story of this forever-married couple.”
Pollak, who recently appeared in George Gallo’s “Middle Men,” will next be seen in Kevin Smith’s “Red State” and David Frankel’s “The Big Year.” Thesp is also set to join Morgan Freeman in Rob Reiner’s “Summer at Dog Dave’s,” which shoots later this summer.
Douglas, who reprises her role as Ari Gold’s sister-in-law on the final season of HBO’s “Entourage,” will soon be seen alongside Cheyenne Jackson and Julia Ormond in “The Green,” which just screened at Outfest. This fall, she returns for the third season of My Damn Channel’s award-winning web series “Easy To Assemble.”
Pollak is repped by ICM and Luber Roklin Entertainment, while The Kohner Agency and KLWG Entertainment rep Douglas.
