James Ransone has landed a recurring role in HBO’s “How to Make It in America.” Ransone will play a Brooklyn artist and clothing company owner who will be an antagonist to the main character. He can be seen this season on HBO’s “Treme.”

Penelope Ann Miller has joined the cast of CBS medical drama pilot “The Doctor.” Miller will play an old friend of the title character who finds herself suddenly ill. Christine Lahti stars in the pilot. Miller recently starred in Rob Reiner’s “Flipped.”

Jere Burns has joined the untitled Dan Goor pilot. He stars opposite Jean Smart as the patriarch of a family medical practice. Burns has recently been recurring on “Justified.”

Neil Garguilo has booked the role of Principal Cox on the new MTV comedy series “This Is Awkward.” The project is a high school comedy, formerly titled “That Girl.” Thesp also just booked CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
