Phillip Noyce to helm ‘Hunter Killer’

'Salt' director signs on for Relativity pic

“Salt” director Phillip Noyce has signed on to helm “Hunter Killer” for Relativity Media.

John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt initially adapted George Wallace and Don Keith’s novel “Firing Point” before Jamie Moss (“X-Men: First Class”) came onboard to rewrite the script.

It was Moss’ take on the story that sparked Noyce’s interest in the project.

“Hunter Killer” follows an untested submarine captain who teams up with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president and stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III.

Noyce, who is best known for directing two installments in the Jack Ryan action franchise, recently tackled Russian espionage in the Angelina Jolie starrer “Salt,” which grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.

Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh is producing alongside Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe of Original Film, while Tucker Tooley will exec produce the film, which is targeting a production start date before the end of the year.

Relativity has “Take Me Home Tonight” and “Limitless” opening next month.

Noyce is repped by UTA.
