Dark comedy comes from Gil Cates Jr.

Phase 4 Films has acquired North American rights to “Lucky,” a dark comedy from Gil Cates Jr.

“Lucky” stars Colin Hanks, Ari Graynor, Jeffrey Tambor and Ann-Margret. The film follows a man (Hanks) as he wins the Iowa State Lottery and uses the money to pursue a woman (Graynor), all while hiding that he’s a fledgling serial killer.

The deal was negotiated by Larry Greenberg, senior veep of acquisitions for Phase 4, with Linda Lichter of Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman on behalf of the filmmakers.

“Lucky” was produced by Cates Jr. and Caitlin Murney under their Ten/Four Productions banner. Screenplay is by Kent Sublette. The film made its world premiere Friday at the Dallas International Film Festival. Phase 4 will release “Lucky” theatrically and on VOD this summer.
