Winners will be announced Jan. 21 at the PGA Awards

The Producers Guild of America has tapped a quintet of nominees for its documentary feature award with two on the Oscar short list.

The nominated films, announced Friday, are ”Beats, Rhymes and Life: the Travels of a Tribe Called Quest,” ”Bill Cunningham New York,” ”Project Nim,” ”Senna” and ”The Union.”

The list of 15 films eligible for the documetnary Oscar includes “Bill Cunningham,” a portrait of the eccentric photographer directed by Richard Press, and “Project Nim,” a recap of a primate experiment directed by James Marsh.

“Beats” is Michael Rapaport’s documentary on the hip-hop group Quest; “Senna” is Asif Kapadia portrait of late Brazilian Formula One driver Ayrton Senna; and “The Union” is directed by Cameron Crowe and focuses on the Elton John-Leon Russell album “The Union.”

Winners will be announced Jan. 21 at the PGA Awards ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton.

The PGA also said Friday that Producers Guild arbitrations for individual producer credit determination for all film and television categories are still underway. Television series nominations will be announced Wednesday and all other nominations will be announced Jan. 3.
