'Gossip Girl' star to portray late musician in indie 'Greetings'
“Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley has come on board to star in indie biopic “Greetings From Tim Buckley” from Smuggler Films, A-Z Prods. and Second Chance Prods.
Badgley will portray Tim Buckley’s son Jeff, centering on the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church and focused on his coming to understand the father who abandoned him.
The film is being produced by Patrick Milling Smith, John N. Hart and Fred Zollo. Exec producers are Brian Carmody, Jill Footlick and Ben Limberg. “Greetings from Tim Buckley” was written by Dan Algrant, Emma Sheanshang and David Brendel and will be directed by Dan Algrant, whose credits include “People I Know” and “Naked in New York.” Pic will start shooting in August in New York City.
Tim Buckley died in 1977 after a drug overdose. Jeff Buckley died in 1997 in a drowning.
“To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood and mythologized as a human being … It’s something very special and sacred,” Badgley said. “I’m going to give all I can to this project.”
