'You Betcha' world premiere in Toronto this fall
Nick Broomfield is looking for $30,000 to help distribute his documentary “Sarah Palin: You Betcha!,” turning to crowdfunding site Kickstarter to fund the North American release. Though numerous pics have turned to crowdfunding for production coin, specifying that funds will go to distribution seems to be a fresh twist on the concept.
Docu has its world premiere at the Toronto Film Fest and will be released this fall — with specific release dates and markets to be announced shortly.
Broomfield made the announcement Friday.
“This film was made for the American people, and Kickstarter now offers them a chance to be a part of the distribution process to directly support the documentary’s national rollout,” he said. “We need help getting this out so voters gain a true understanding of the person who is asking for their political support.”
Content announced Aug. 3 that it will rep international rights to “You Betcha!” except for Channel 4’s U.K. TV rights.
Cassian Elwes is repping the U.S. rights for the project, which hasn’t yet been set with a distributor.
“Sarah Palin: You Betcha!” is described as a journey across the icy midwinter snows of Alaska to meet Palin’s school friends, family and Republican colleagues in order to try and discover the real Palin. Broomfield directed “Sarah Palin: You Betcha!” with Joan Churchill, with Marc Hoeferlin producing. Another Palin docu, “The Undefeated,” was released last month by ARC Entertainment and bows Sept. 1 on VOD. DVD release of that film will include a special Walmart edition.
