LONDON — Owen Wilson will receive Variety’s International Star of the Year award, acknowledging an actor’s contribution to the film industry, at the eighth Dubai Film Festival.
Wilson will also hold a Q&A during the fest, which runs Dec. 7-14. His many credits include this year’s “Midnight in Paris,” helmed by Woody Allen, “Wedding Crashers,” “Zoolander” and “The Royal Tenenbaums,” the latter which he co-produced and co-penned.
Last year’s award went to Colin Firth, whose pic “The King’s Speech” opened the fest.
Additionally, Dubai has added Ben Wheatley’s “Kill List” and “Kotoko,” from Japanese filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto, to its Midnight Mayhem program.
“Kill List,” which has been a hit on the fest circuit since its SXSW preem earlier this year, will screen at midnight on Dec. 8 and Dec. 9.
“Kotoko,” about a deeply disturbed mother who suffers frightening double vision, will screen at midnight on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.
Fest will screen 171 pics from 56 nations this year.
