Opera, ballet cinemacasts set for 2011-12

Emerging Pictures announces season slate

Alternative cinema content company Emerging Pictures has announced a 2011-12 slate of about 25 HD screenings of opera and ballet events.

Opera offerings include “Macbeth,” “Tosca” and “Faust” from the Royal Opera House in London and “Don Giovanni” from Teatro alla Scala. Ballet content includes “Coppelia,” “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker” from the Bolshoi Ballet and “Children of Paradise” from the Paris Opera Ballet.

Of the cinemacasts now skedded, almost 20 of them will be transmitted live. Emerging Pictures’ two performing arts series, Opera in Cinema and Ballet in Cinema, are similar to other increasingly popular performing-arts cinemacast initiatives, from orgs including the Metroplitan Opera and London’s National Theater.

Total number of venues that screen Emerging Pictures’ content has jumped in the last year from 100 to more than 250, according to managing director Ira Deutchman.
