Italian distrib One Movie has secured rights to Spanish comedy franchise “Torrente.”
One Movie plans a 100-print release for the four pics in association with Massimo Ferrero Cinemas, after the latest part of the scumbag cop saga, written, directed, starring and produced by Santiago Segura, caught fire at the Spanish box office.
“Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis,” shot in 3D, posted the biggest opening ever for a Spanish film on home turf, grossing €8.4 million ($11.2 million) in March. It went on to score a boffo $29.4 million in Spain.
Sales followed for “Torrente 4” and now for the entire saga, with international buyers marketing it as a James Bond parody, said Guido Rud, who arranged the deal as topper of Argentine sales agent FilmSharks Intl. Buyers in the U.S., U.K. and Japan are also in talks for the franchise.
“Torrente 4,” which has been released in Argentina and Chile, will be released in Brazil in December and France in February.
