Company acquires rights to SXSW premiere
Gotham-based New Video has picked up rights to Janet Grillo’s upcoming SXSW preem, “Fly Away,” for digital, cable VOD and DVD distribution. A limited theatrical release in the fall is also in the works.
Written, directed and produced by Grillo, “Fly Away” follows the relationship of a mother (Beth Broderick) with her autistic teen daughter (Ashley Rickards). Pic is one of eight in the Narrative Feature competish at SXSW in March.
Film is the first feature as a writer-director from Grillo, a former studio exec at New Line who has previously penned and helmed a couple of shorts.
Pavlina Hatoupis co-produces with Catherine Hardwicke, Lee Adhemar G. Feldshon and David F. Schwartz on board as exec producers.
“Fly Away” will be released by New Video’s Flatiron Film Company April 26. Gotham-based New Video is a distribution partner for orgs and nets including Major League Baseball, A&E, History, Lifetime, Arthouse Films and Tribeca Film, among others.
