Thesp joins Broadway-to-big screen adaptation
Will Forte (“Saturday Night”) has joined the cast of “Rock of Ages,” portraying a news anchor.
“Rock of Ages” began filming in May with “Dancing With the Stars” champ Julianne Hough set as the female lead opposite Tom Cruise, Bryan Cranston, Diego Boneta, Paul Giamatti and Mary J. Blige.
“Hairspray” helmer Adam Shankman is directing and choreographing “Rock of Ages,” which is built around rock hits of the 1980s by Journey, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar. It focuses on a couple that meets at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, falls in love and tries to stay together while living the rock life.
Musical originated in Los Angeles in 2006 before moving to Broadway. The news anchor character wasn’t in the musical.
Creator Chris D’Arienzo scripted the adaptation, and Shankman and Justin Theroux (“Tropic Thunder”) polished the script. Matt Weaver, Jennifer Gibgot, Scott Prisand and Garrett Grant will produce.
Forte is repped by UTA.
