Though the calendar says mid-November, there was plenty of yuletide cheer at Sunday’s Gotham preem of Sony’s “Arthur Christmas.” Screening and post-party, held at Clearview Chelsea, drew numerous thesps and their tots.
“Kids start to ask, ‘How does Santa get to everyone’s house?’ and this movie is so great because it answers that question,” said Mariska Hargitay, with 5-year-old son August, who is still “completely in the magic, which is so beautiful. We’d like to keep it that way.”
Patrick Wilson, who accompanied his 5-year-old son, Kalin, to the afternoon bash, also hopes to keep any questions at bay for some time. “He’s still blissfully in the stage of excitement about Santa, and there’s not a shred of doubt,” he quipped.
Bill Nighy raved about giving voice to a long-retired Santa. “The great thing about animation is you get to play parts you wouldn’t be able to pull off otherwise,” he said. “I’m not quite 136 years old. I still have teeth and hair.”
