Salma Hayek stars in Mathieu Demy's French drama
TORONTO — MPI Media Group has picked up all North American rights to Mathieu Demy and Salma Hayek starrer “Americano.”
The French drama is also written and helmed by Demy and follows the journey of a man trough through his childhood memories.
Chiara Mastroianni (“Persepolis,” “Carnage”) and Geraldine Chaplin (“Doctor Zhivago,” “Talk to Her”) also star in the pic, which MPI plans to release theatrically in Spring 2012.
MPI acquired the pic immediately following its preem at the Toronto Film Festival.
Deal was negotiated by MPI Media Group exec veep Greg Newman and Mathieu Robinet of French distrib Bac Films.
Demy stars as Martin, a Parisian man who travels to L.A. to settle his mother’s affairs following her death. Once in his childhood home, he becomes flooded with memories and discovers through an old photograph that his mother was close to a mysterious girl.
He then travels to Tijuana in search of this woman, played by Hayek, and travels into his past in an effort to find peace.
This week, MPI also acquired Zoe Kravitz starrer “Yelling to the Sky.”
