MPI acquires rights to ‘Hammers’

Indie dramedy scheduled for August release in U.S.

MPI Media Group has acquired all North American rights to the offbeat indie dramedy “A Bag of Hammers.”

Brian Crano makes his directorial debut with the pic, which stars Jason Ritter, Jake Sandvig, Rebecca Hall, Gabriel Macht and Todd Louiso.

MPI is planning a theatrical release in August, to be followed by VOD and DVD.

Ritter and Sandvig play slacker buddies who run a valet-parking scam to steal cars. “Hammers,” a co-production of Manor Film, Two Ships and Locomotive, was produced by Peter Friedlander, Lucy Barzun Donnelly, and Jennifer Barrons.

“Brian Crano and his remarkable cast have crafted a unique film whose mixture of comedy and poignancy will move all who see it,” said MPI’s exec VP Greg Newman, who negotiated the distribution deal along with Josh Braun of Submarine.
