Mandil to join Viacom in New York
The MPAA’s top lawyer in its anti-piracy efforts piracy is leaving his post to join the legal team at Viacom.
Daniel Mandil, the MPAA’s general counsel and chief content protection officer, will join Viacom where he will report to general counsel Michael Fricklas.
Mandil, who joined the MPAA in May 2009, had been based in Los Angeles but had expressed a desire to move to New York, where his family lives, a source said.
Viacom is in the midst of a high-profile copyright infringement suit against Google and YouTube.
Mandil previously held posts at Sony BMG Music Entertainment and was a litigation partner in the New York office of Covington & Burling and its predecessor firms.
