Moszkowicz to receive Variety award

Constantin exec to be feted at Venice fest

Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz will receive Variety’s achievement in international film award at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 3.

Moszkowicz, Constantin’s head of film and TV, has become the face of Germany’s leading independent producer-distrib in recent years, overseeing such diverse concerns as film and TV production, domestic and international distribution, licensing, acquisitions and marketing.

He has worked on more than 100 features, serving as producer, exec producer or production company head on such commercial and critical hits as Soenke Wortmann’s “Maybe… Maybe Not,” Michael Herbig’s “Manitou’s Shoe,” Caroline Link’s Oscar-winning “Nowhere in Africa,” Tom Tykwer’s “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” Oliver Hirschbiegel’s “Downfall” and Uli Edel’s “The Baader Meinhof Complex.”

His more recent productions include Link’s “A Year Ago in Winter,” Herbig’s “Vicky the Viking,” Wortmann’s “Pope Joan,” Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe’s animated hit “Animals United” and Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” which is Constantin’s biggest worldwide hit with a global box office of $300 million.

This year, Constantin is releasing Anderson’s “The Three Musketeers,” an n-house production, and Roman Polanski’s “Carnage,” a Constantin co-production that premieres at Venice.

Moszkowicz, who has been at Constantin since 1991, is overseeing a number of projects in the works, including a fifth “Resident Evil,” a CGI-animated “Tarzan” and historical actioner “Pompeii,” which promises to be Constantin’s biggest international production yet.

Fest runs Aug. 31-Sept. 10.
