Monterey nabs ‘Keyhole’

Company gets U.S. rights to Guy Maddin's haunted house pic

Monterey Media has acquired U.S. rights to Guy Maddin’s haunted house thriller “Keyhole” from Entertainment One.

Pic stars Jason Patric, Isabella Rossellini, and Udo Kier. “Keyhole,” shot in black and white, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Monterey plans a domestic theatrical release in the spring.

Patric portrays a gangster and deadbeat father who returns home after a long absence and begins a protracted journey through his rotting mausoleum of a house in search of his estranged wife, played by Rossellini.

Story, penned by George Toles and Maddin, is loosely based on Homer’s”The Odyssey” and “The Poetics of Space,” Gaston Bachelard’s 1958 study of the psychological impact produced by one’s domestic environs.

Produced are Jody Shapiro and Jean du Toit with Phyllis Laing exec produced.
