Michael Pena has joined the cast of Warner Bros.-Village Roadshow police saga “Gangster Squad” opposite Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin.
Ruben Fleischer is helming from a script by Will Beall. Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick will produce through Lin Pictures and Langley Park.
Pena will portray the police officer Navidad Ramirez.
Pic is based on the Los Angeles Times’ seven-part series “Tales From the Gangster Squad,” to which Warner acquired the rights two years ago.
The articles, penned by Paul Lieb-erman, chronicled efforts the Los Angeles Police Dept.’s struggle with increasing crime and corruption in the 1940s, when the department formed the Gangster Squad to keep East Coast organized crime figures from planting roots.
Pena’s been seen this year in “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Battle: Los Angeles” and “Everything Must Go.” He’ll be seen next in “30 Mintues or Less.”
