McDonnell works in the ‘Now’

Actor to star in Shawn Levy-produced book adaptation

Thomas McDonell will star in “The Spectacular Now,” produced by Shawn Levy.

The adaptation, based on the book by Tim Tharp, will be penned by the “500 Days of Summer” writing team of Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, with Lee Toland Krieger directing.

Story follows a hard-partying high school senior whose life changes after meeting a shy, insecure girl.

Pic will be produced through Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment shingle, with Tom McNulty and James Skotchdopole joining Levy as producers.

McDonell is set to make his debut in Disney’s “Prom.”

Levy is working on post for “Real Steel,” with Hugh Jackman, set to bow in October. He has worked with Neustadter and Weber to produce “Pink Panther 2,” which they wrote.

McDonell is repped by WME and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
