Magnolia snatches ‘Headhunters’

U.S. theatrical release slated for this year

BERLIN — Magnolia Pictures has snapped up North American rights to “Headhunters,” marking the second pic the distrib has pre-bought here at the European Film Market.

Pic, a gritty thriller helmed by Morten Tyldum and based off the popular Norwegian book by Jo Nesbo, was acquired from Trust Nordisk in Berlinale.

It stars Aksel Hennie (“Max Manus”) as a charming scoundrel and Norway’s most accomplished headhunter who risks everything to obtain a valuable painting owned by a former mercenary.

Deal was negotiated by Magnolia SVP Tom Quinn and VP of acquisitions Dori Begley with Trust Nordisk’s Susan Wendt.

“Headhunters” is skedded for a theatrical release in Norway this summer while Magnolia plans to release the pic later in the year.

On Sunday, Magnolia snapped up rights to Lars Von Trier’s latest effort “Melancholia” from Trust Nordisk for a seven-figure sum.
