Michael Cuesta film set for VOD, theatrical release
Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to Michael Cuesta’s drama “Roadie” and will release the film on video-on-demand Dec. 2 before a theatrical release on Jan. 6.“Roadie” stars Ron Eldard along with Bobby Cannavale, Jill Hennessy and Lois Smith. The film was written by Gerald Cuesta and Michael Cuesta and produced by Mike Downey and Sirad Balducci. Eldard plays a longtime roadie for the legendary Blue Oyster Cult who has just been fired by the band. With nowhere else to go, he returns home to see his aging mom in Queens, where a wild encounter with two high school friends shows him that some things never change. Cuesta’s credits include “L.I.E.,” “Twelve and Holding” and Showtime’s “Homeland.” The deal was negotiated for Magnolia by senior VP of acquisitions Dori Begley and head of legal and business affairs Chris Matson, with Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza of Preferred Content and Graham Taylor of WME working on behalf of the filmmakers.
