Macdonald’s Marley doc rocks sales

Fortissimo tunes up sales in Europe

Fortissimo Films has secured a raft of sales on Kevin Macdonald’s “Marley,” about the late reggae legend.

Pic, exec produced by Bob Marley’s son Ziggy, Steve Bing and Chris Blackwell, sold to Kinowelt in Germany, Wild Side Films in Gaul, Ascot Elite in Switzerland and Nu Metro in South Africa.

Macdonald’s doc, produced by Tuff Gong Films, Cowboy Films and Shangri-La Entertainment, chronicles the life of the Jamaican musician. It’s the first time Marley’s family has opened its private archives of film footage and interviews to the public.

The docu, produced by Cowboy Films’ Charles Steel and co-produced by Shangri-La’s Zach Schwartz, is skedded for release this year, the 30th anniversary of Marley’s death in 1981.

Macdonald’s YouTube experiment docu “Life in a Day,” which preemed at Sundance in January, is being sold by HanWay films.
