Co-prod'n mart focuses on Indian auteur cinema
The Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors co-production mart, which focuses on Indian auteur cinema this year, has selected its 12 projects.They include “Sunrise,” Partho Sen-Gupta’s follow-up to his apocalyptic debut “Let the Wind Blow,” which screened in Berlin in 2004, and a new project from Satish Manwar, “The Judgement,” whose “The Damned Rain” made a splash in Rotterdam last year. Others are “Aharbal Falls,” by Ajay Raina; “Strange Love,” by Natasha Mendonca; “Burqa Boxers,” by Alka Raghuram; “The Island Within,” by Sourav Sarangi; “The Gentle Dance,” by Anup Singh; “The Penance,” by Sidharth Srinivasan; “Sebastian Wants to Remember,” by Vasant Nath; “The Trapper’s Snare,” by Shanker Raman; “Thread,” by Lilium Leonard; and “Devastated,” by Ashish Avikunthak. The Swiss fest dedicated to cutting-edge cinema made its selection from more than 200 submissions. Open Doors runs Aug. 6-9. Locarno runs Aug. 3-13.
