Lionsgate, Roadside nab ‘Margin Call’

First major acquisition at this year's Sundance Fest

In the first major acquisition to come out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Lionsgate has partnered with Roadside Attractions to acquire and release helmer J.C. Chandor’s “Margin Call.”

Following a packed press and industry screening on Friday morning at the Holiday Theatre, a slew of interested buyers have been quietly bidding for the pic, which toplines Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany and Jeremy Irons.

Following all night negotiations, the deal was done by Lionsgate’s Steve Beeks, Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen, Independent’s Cassian Elwes, UTA’s Rena Ronson and pic’s producers.

Pic is skedded for a 2011 theatrcial release.

Sources say that IFC Films was also high among the list of buyers and offered a reported seven-figure sum.

“Margin Call” tells the story of key players at an investment firm during a 24-hour period in the beginning stages of the 2008 financial crisis. Chandor penned and helmed the pic produced by Robert Ogden Barnum of Benaroya pictures and Quinto, Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa of Before the Door Pictures, and Joe Jenckes.

Elwes, Laura Rister, Randy Manis and Joshua Blum are exec producers.

Myriad Pictures reps international rights on the pic.
