L.A. Film Fest awards announced

'Beats,' 'Blind Date,' 'Block' among winners

Winners of the Los Angeles Film Festival were toasted at a buffet brunch Sunday at Chaya.

The narrative feature prize went to “Familiar Ground” by Stephane Lafleur, while Beverly Kopf and Bobbie Bierleffi’s “Wish Me Away” took home documentary kudos.

Audience award winners included Asif Kapadia’s “Senna,” which won for international feature; “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest,” from Michael Rapaport, for doc feature; Joe Cornish’s “Attack the Block,” audience award for narrative feature; and “Can’t Shake This Feeling: Grum,” by the General Assembly, for musicvideo.

The cast of “How to Cheat” took home the award for performance in a narrative feature.

In the shorts categories, winners included “The Wind Is Blowing on My Street,” by Saba Riaza (narrative); “I Am a Girl!,” by Susan Koenen (docu); and “The Eagleman Stag,” by Mikey Please (animation). Aud nod for short film went to Joe Rosen’s “Blind Date.”

Awards were presented by thesps John C. Reilly and Allison Janney. Fest ran from June 16 through Sunday.
