Kino Lorber nabs ‘Kumare’

Vikram Gandhi pic won Audience Award at SXSW

Kino Lorber has bought U.S. rights to the documentary “Kumare,” the story of a bogus guru who gains sincere followers for his made-up philosophy.

Pic’s directed by Vikram Gandhi and produced by Brendan Colthurst and Bryan Carmel via the Disposable Television banner. The executive producer is Stephen Feder.

After its world premiere at SXSW, “Kumare” received the fest’s audience award for feature docu. It won the jury prize for docu feature at the Napa Valley Film Fest and played in early November at DOC NYC in New York City.

Deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber CEO and President Richard Lorber, Cinetic’s Dana O’Keefe and Vikram Gandhi. Kino Lorber is planning to open “Kumare” nationwide in May or June before making the film available on VOD.

Bond Strategy and Influence will be partnering with Kino Lorber on the theatrical release.
