LONDON — Luc Roeg’s production and sales shingle Independent has sealed a raft of deals on Lynne Ramsay’s Cannes competish pic “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”
Major territories sold include Australia and New Zealand (Hopscotch), Italy (Bolero Films), Scandinavia (Svensk), Spain (Vertigo), Switzerland (Praesens Film), Poland (Best Film), Portugal (Pepperview), Japan (The Klockworx), Korea (T Cast), Hong Kong (Sundream) and Taiwan (Atom Cinema/Filmware). A deal in Latin America is in advanced negotiations.
As reported in Variety on Monday, Oscilloscope Laboratories has nabbed North American rights to the film, which the distrib will release in the winter, accompanied by an awards campaign.
These pickups come in addition to pre-sales for the U.K. (Artificial Eye), Benelux (Wild Bunch), France (Diaphana), Greece (Seven Films), Israel (Shani Films) and the Middle East (Shooting Stars).
The emotional thriller, which stars Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller, looks at the difficult relationship between a mother and her teenage son, who has committed a heinous act.
The screenplay, written by Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinnear, was based on the novel by Lionel Shriver.
