'Gossip Girl' thesp to play a former hippie activist-turned-bomb-plotter

EXCLUSIVE: “Gossip Girl” thesp Katie Cassidy is in negotiations to play the female lead in Charlie Matthau’s adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s crime novel “Freaky Deaky.”

Matt Dillon stars as an LAPD bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars.

Cassidy will play Robin Abbot, one of the ex-hippies who went to jail for blowing up a police car. After being released, she starts a career as an historical romance novelist and reconnects with Brendan Fraser’s character in order to plot her revenge.

Matthau, who wrote the script and will produce, is currently looking to replace William H. Macy, who has dropped out of the picture.

“Freaky Deaky” is scheduled to start production next week in Michigan.

Cassidy previously appeared on the bigscreen in “A Nightmare on Elm St.” and “Taken.” Thesp next stars alongside Selena Gomez and Leighton Meester in Fox 2000’s “Monte Carlo,” which hits theaters July 1.
