‘Johnny English’ goes int’l on Facebook

Oz, U.K. bows mark first overseas offering from Facebook's 'social cinema'

Universal Pictures is extending its “social cinema” experience overseas by offering the 2003 Rowan Atkinson starrer “Johnny English” for rent via Facebook in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

Deal marks the first time the studio’s service will be offered in international markets. Pic will be available to rent through the film’s fan page for 30 Facebook Credits, worth $3, for 48 hours.

Rentals will be done through a Social Theater application that U designed with developer Milyoni, allowing viewers to comment on quotes and scenes.

The announcement coincides with the release of the pic’s sequel, “Johnny English Reborn,” which bow domestically on Friday, following its opening last month in Oz and on Oct. 7 in the U.K.

“The Big Lebowski” was the first film Universal offered on the service back in August.
