'True Grit' star would take the role that Galifanakis passed on

Jeff Bridges is in talks to join Ryan Reynolds in Universal’s “R.I.P.D.”

Directed by Robert Schwentke, the story centers on a police force called the Rest In Peace Department, and a recently-slain cop who joins the force to find the man that murdered him.

Phil Hay penned the script based on the Dark Horse comic by Peter Lenkov, with Neal Moritz and Mike Richardson producing.

Zack Galifanakis was in talks to take the role but eventually passed on the project and Bridges is now in talks for the same role.

Bridges recently closed a deal to star in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures co-production “Seventh Son” and was last seen in Paramount’s “True Grit.”

He is repped by CAA and Schiff Co.
