Hat Trick sells comedy skein

TOKYO — Wowow, the operator of Japan’s biggest private entertainment channel service for cable and satellite, has acquired the first two seasons of U.K.-U.S. comedy “Episodes” from Hat Trick Intl., the distribution arm of U.K.-based Hat Trick Prods.

The first will bow on Wowow in November, with the second skedded to air in 2012.

The show, first broadcast on Showtime and BBC2, has since been licensed to more than 180 countries.

The deal was closed at Mipcom in Cannes, which bowed on Monday.

Since Saturday, Wowow has been broadcasting a new channel lineup consisting of Wowow Prime (foreign dramas, pics and other general programming), Wowow Live (live concerts and events) and Wowow Cinema (new and classic pics). The three channels have 2.4 million total subscribers.
