Anime Contents Expo, Dialogue of Cultures fest won't run

Two more industry events due to unspool in Tokyo have been cancelled following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Anime Contents Expo, a new toon market skedded for March 26-27, and the first Dialogue of Cultures Film Festival, set for April 7-11, have decided not to run.

Among the reasons given were rolling blackouts, disrupted transport and mounting concerns about the damaged nuclear reactors in Fukushima that might impact the safety of visitors.

Thursday’s announcements come on the heels of Wednesday’s cancellation of the Tokyo Anime Fair, set for March 24-27.

The Dialogue of Cultures fest, dedicated to exploring the impact of globalization through film, is backed by Kazakh producers Boris Cherdabayev and Aliya Uvalzhanova and programmed by Moscow-based film producer Anna Katchko.

Katchko hopes to be able to confirm later this month whether the fest will unspool at a later date.
