‘Inception’ tops Saturn Awards noms

'Walking Dead' leads TV series with six nods

Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” led the field with nine noms, including best sci-fi pic, and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” led all TV series with six as the Academy of Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy films announced nominees for the 37th annual Saturn Awards.

Nolan’s thriller was followed closely by “Let Me In” and “Tron: Legacy” with seven noms each.

“Hereafter” has six noms, including top sci-fier. “Shutter Island” took five noms, including a bid for top horror/thriller pic and an actor nom for star Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio will be up against himself, with a nom for “Inception” as well.

Nolan will compete for director honors with Darren Arnofsky (“Black Swan”), Clint Eastwood (“Hereafter”), Matt Reeves (“Let Me In”), Martin Scorsese (“Shutter Island”) and David Yates (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”).

Also drawing five noms are “Black Swan,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” and “Never Let Me Go.”

Warner Bros. was the leader among studios, taking 23 noms. Paramount has 16 and Disney 15; and Fox Searchlight and Universal are tied with 10.

“The Walking Dead,” “Lost” and “True Blood” were the TV noms leaders, and each will be competing for lead actor with Andrew Lincoln (“The Walking Dead”), Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”) in the running. “True Blood” will face other fan favorites “Breaking Bad” and “Dexter” for syndicated/cable series. Also nominated in that category is “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”

Among TV networks, AMC leads with 11 noms; ABC has eight, TNT six, and Fox five.

The Saturns are known for their eccentric fields of nominees, and this year is no exception. The horror/thriller category pits “Kick-Ass” against “Black Swan” and “The Wolf Man.”

The Saturns will be presented in June in Burbank.
