“Inception” and HBO’s “The Pacific” were the big winners Sunday night at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ 58th annual Golden Reel Awards.
“Inception” won the sound-editing feature-film music prize and feature-film fx and foley. “The Pacific” won for both TV longform DX and ADR, and fx and foley. Sound in an animated feature went to “How to Train Your Dragon,” while “Country Strong” earned the kudo for musical feature film. Sound designer and editor Walter Murch, who edited the sound for films including “Apocalypse Now!,” “The Godfather: Part II,” “The Godfather: Part III,” “Ghost,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “The English Patient,” was honored with a career achievement laurel. Helmer George Lucas attended to present the award to his friend and collaborator of more than 45 years. Brian Grazer became the first producer to receive the filmmaker award, but was unable to attend the ceremony and sent a taped acceptance speech.
