IMG has won the licensing and endorsement rights for legendary UCLA hoops coach John Wooden and will begin developing TV, film and other media projects around the coach and his “Pyramid of Success” formula, which helped his teams win 10 NCAA championships in a dozen years.
The fashion, media and sports giant said Monday that its licensing unit was selected by the Wooden family to represent the coach’s name, voice, likeness, image and signature.
For decades, Wooden used his “Pyramid of Success” diagram, encompassing 25 behaviors the coach believed were necessary for success, to help motivate his players.
Wooden died June 4 at age 99.
”We are very excited to represent the family of coach Wooden,” said Daniel Siegel, VP of IMG Licensing.
”As a UCLA alum and longtime admirer of coach Wooden, I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with his lovely family to preserve the Wooden brand and legacy.”
Wooden’s children, Nan and Jim, added, ”We are very pleased to have a company of IMG’s reputation working to expand the Wooden global brand. Our dad touched millions of people around the globe with his simple, direct approach to life and he has provided his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with a blueprint for success that we feel should be shared with as many people as possible.”
